China Medical University Healthcare System Wins Five Sustainability Action Awards at the 2025 Asia-Pacific Sustainability Expo
Beigang Branch Clinches Two Gold Awards, CMUH Recognized for Outstanding Achievements
The 4th Asia-Pacific Sustainability Expo 2025 was held from September 11 to 13 at Taipei World Trade Center Hall 1, under the theme “Charge Towards Change”, connecting government, enterprises, academia, and non-profit organizations. The three-day event attracted over 100 participating institutions. The China Medical University Healthcare System (CMUHS) showcased its commitment to sustainability with a themed pavilion titled “Smart Health & Sustainable University”, led by Chief Sustainability Officer Prof. Cheng-Chun Lee. The exhibit highlighted achievements in university governance, smart healthcare, and University Social Responsibility (USR).
At the awards ceremony, CMUHS earned five honors in the Taiwan and Asia-Pacific Sustainability Action Awards, with Beigang Branch Hospital standing out as a major highlight, winning two Gold Awards—a record achievement for the system.
Five Major Awards Recognizing CMUHS Excellence
- China Medical University (CMU) received the SDG4 Bronze Award (Quality Education – Taiwan category) for its program “Integrated Chinese and Western Medicine for Child and Adolescent Health Protection.”
- CMU Hospital (CMUH), committed to global sustainable development, extended its healthcare expertise into communities and international projects. It won:
- SDG2 Silver Award (Taiwan category) for “Deep Healthcare Roots in the Mountains”
- SDG6 Bronze Award (Asia-Pacific category) for its “Clean Water and Sanitation Initiatives”
- Beigang Branch Hospital stood out by winning:
- SDG10 Gold Award (Taiwan category) for “Every Second Counts in Rural Healthcare”
- SDG3 Gold Award (Asia-Pacific category) for its “Cloud-Based Digital Learning Program”
Leadership Comments
CMU President, Academician An-Si Jiang, stated:

Executive Vice President and HEPP Director, Prof. Cheng-Chieh Lin, added:
"Being recognized on both national and international stages demonstrates our system’s strength in educational governance, talent cultivation, and societal engagement. Through the Higher Education Sprout Project, we aim to embed sustainability into the DNA of education and broaden the social impact of USR."
Chief Sustainability Officer, Prof. Cheng-Chun Lee, emphasized:
"Sustainability is not just a project—it’s a governance mindset and cultural approach. Through our thematic pavilion and six mini-lectures, we showcased how the CMU system translates its sustainable vision into concrete actions across campus, healthcare, and the community."
Dean of the College of Chinese Medicine, Prof. Hung-Jung Yen, who accepted the SDG4 award, shared:
"This honor belongs to the entire USR team. Special thanks to Executive Director Jing-Ting Lin, our faculty, students, and partner physicians. Through micro-credit courses, VR games, podcasts, and interactive picture books, we brought integrative health knowledge into schools and communities to protect youth well-being. We’ll continue advancing sustainable public health for children and adolescents."
Beigang Branch Hospital Superintendent, Dr. Hsi-Chin Wu, who led the team to a double gold victory, remarked:
"Our hospital plays a vital role in protecting lives in Yunlin County. With advanced medical equipment and optimized processes, we ensure timely and effective intervention—especially during emergencies when every second counts. This recognition affirms our team’s professional dedication and deeply motivates all healthcare workers involved."
Interactive Pavilion & Community Engagement
Under the theme “Medical Sustainability: Driving the Power of Change”, CMUHS created an interactive exhibition area that featured:
- Sustainable Governance Showcase
- Sustainability Vision Wall
- Carbon Reduction Knowledge Games
- USR Project Exhibition
The exhibit also included a special focus on “Reflections on Aging and Community Risk Under Climate Change”, simulating how elders navigate extreme heat, floods, and disasters, while promoting low-carbon living. Visitors participated in immersive scenarios and engaged directly with faculty and students, deepening their understanding of sustainability and public health.
Popular resources such as CMU’s Sustainability Reports, Social Responsibility Yearbooks, and publications—like President Ming-Chi Hung’s retirement commemorative book “To the Summit” and CMU’s Liberal Arts Education Compendium—were widely distributed.
Numerous sustainability experts, alumni, and parents also visited the pavilion to express their strong support for CMUHS's initiatives.
