China Medical University Achieves Outstanding Results in the 2024 Sustainable Smart Innovation Hackathon

The 5th Annual Sustainable Smart Innovation Hackathon culminated in a grand finale on December 15, 2024, at Tunghai University. This year’s event was co-hosted by eight universities in central Taiwan: Tunghai University, China Medical University, Feng Chia University, Asia University, Providence University, Chung Shan Medical University, Ling Tung University, and National Chi Nan University. The competition attracted 20 corporate sponsors who provided challenge topics, receiving a record-breaking 368 team submissions nationwide. Over 600 faculty members, students, and corporate judges attended the final round, making it the largest and most influential platform in central Taiwan for academia-industry collaboration on sustainable innovation.

Professor Cheng-Chun Lee, Director of Sustainability, expressed his delight at witnessing the growth of the hackathon over the past five years. He emphasized that the event has become the premier platform for fostering a sustainable future through collaboration between academia and industry, gaining widespread recognition and support.

This year, China Medical University (CMU) delivered a stellar performance with 32 teams registering for the competition, 16 advancing to the finals, and ultimately winning 4 first-place awards, 3 second-place awards, 3 third-place awards, and 6 honorable mentions. The teams collectively earned prize money totaling NT$126,000, showcasing their interdisciplinary proposal capabilities in sustainable smart innovation.

Notably, all four first-place teams received guidance on their proposals and presentations from the university’s I-Lab, with three team leaders or members having completed I-Lab’s Design Thinking Course, further demonstrating the value of CMU’s innovative teaching approach.
