Introduction

The College of Life Sciences is one of the University’s core academic units, dedicated to advancing the development of biomedical sciences and the biotechnology industry. By integrating expertise in both traditional Chinese and Western medicine with interdisciplinary scientific research, the College fosters a resilient and competitive environment for teaching and research, with the long-term goal of contributing to societal prosperity and public health.

The College comprises the Department of Biotechnology (including master’s and doctoral programs), the Ph.D. Program in Biotechnology Industry, the Graduate Institute of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, and the Graduate Institute of Cell Biology. According to the 2025 U.S. News rankings, China Medical University is ranked second in Taiwan in the fields of Molecular Biology and Cell Biology. These achievements represent strong recognition of the College’s excellence in research and educational quality. In recent years, the College has actively recruited outstanding faculty from overseas to further strengthen its research and teaching capacity, while cultivating research talent with a global perspective. Students have demonstrated outstanding performance in scientific research, receiving wide recognition at academic conferences and competitions. Numerous research outcomes have been highly regarded by professional reviewers and the academic community. The College’s comprehensive training and mentoring mechanisms have also successfully supported students in research grant applications and innovation competitions, highlighting the solid foundation of its research training and talent development efforts.

In terms of international engagement, since 2022 the College has co-organized an all-English “Undergraduate Elite Research Forum” with the Dean’s Scholars Program at The University of Texas at Austin. Additional initiatives, including lab rotations and bilingual academic activities, have further strengthened international exchange, while the number of international students has continued to grow, significantly enhancing the College’s global outlook.

Looking ahead, the College will continue to deepen interdisciplinary research, expand the application of artificial intelligence, and strengthen international collaboration and industry–academia linkages. Through these efforts, the College aims to cultivate innovative talents with global vision in translational medicine and biotechnology research and development, thereby contributing to the advancement of Taiwan’s biomedical high-tech and biotechnology industries and steadily progressing toward greater international integration.
